5 affordable kid’s book’s we are lovin’!📘

So I would like to know .. do your kids read and like it ?! 🤔😂

I know some kids who love to read, some who struggle and some who honestly don’t like it. I believe that you have to really start reading to them at an early age & you have to stay consistent and keep them interested. Nowadays with social media and everything advancing a lot of us don’t pick up a book to read. It is so important and vital to our education, with reading comes comprehension and spelling… so the more you read the more you learn. I have always loved to read, but being so busy its hard for me to find the time, so I try to get audio books and listen on my downtime/me time.

My oldest ( now 16) I started reading to him when he was a baby and by 4 he memorized books and he was such a good reader! I think that really helped him as he didn’t really struggle with English, reading or comprehension. Now that he is in high school he reads if he has to for English class, but it isn’t his #1 thing to do, lol. I have to make him read and remind him of the benefits of reading. I bet I sound like a broken record! He was gifted a new book for Christmas, & I forgot the name of it, but I need to get him reading that book asap!

With my youngest son I also started reading to him young, but wasn’t as consistent as my older son so he has had some comprehension issues. I don’t think the COVID situation helped , I feel a lot of kids fell a bit behind with not being in school and the online learning was very difficult for the kids. He also is super active & has a lot of energy so he is more into other activities. He likes to read but at times he wants to read through everything so fast and when you ask him what he read he has no clue!! Lol, I am not sure if that is all kids, but I have to push him a bit and now we read together at nights. If I have things to get done around the house I have him read out loud to me and if he needs help with words he spells it or sounds it out to me.

I have a list of 5 books I wanted to share that my son loves ( I also enjoyed them too ) and has read over and over. I also provided the links all books are available on

  • Salt in His Shoes – By: Deloris Jordan
  • E.T. – By: Melissa Mathison
  • God Gave Us Easter- By: Lisa Tawn Bergren
  • Who Is Michael Jordan? – By: Kristen Anderson
  • I Am George Washington- By: Brad Meltzer

I still want to purchase him a set of Who Is Books since he really likes those. I think they are very well written for kids & they give a lot of information on the topic. They have them on for purchase, if you haven’t heard of those or checked them out I suggest you do😉. If you have a son who loves basketball I highly recommend the Salt in His Shoes book he will really enjoy it !

Comment below with your kid’s book’s suggestions , I love to find new good reads for my boys.

Our new way of doing Gingerbread house’s .. using pop tarts! 😀

Do you & your families make these every year ? I usually like to do them every year with the kids. I usually get the boxed packaged one from Target or Walmart every year, and to be honest the pieces are so heavy that you have to use so much icing just to get it to stick! You have to be so patient and hold it together year I remember just throwing it away, lol!

This year I wanted to do something a bit different and this video popped up on my Facebook page and it was from this blog; and it looked very easy and very cute. I also thought maybe it would be cheaper .. I don’t know about anyone else, but we don’t keep our gingerbread houses we end up throwing them away. The boxed ones are usually between $8-$15 plus so I wanted to see if I could spend less and end up with a cute affordable gingerbread house. I was going to go to the .99 cent store but wasn’t close to one so I went to the dollar tree instead. I found the pop tarts, candies (mini candy canes too), a cute little tree gummy, and a Santa gummy. I spent a total of $4 ! The icing I ended up making myself , below I will let you know how to do that😉 ( so easy!)

In the blog above she explained what the pro’s are to using pop tarts instead of graham crackers. I bought the strawberry ones and noticed that it did give it more a of textured look because they are frosted so I thought that was cool.

  • 6 pop tarts
  • Variety of candies
  • Icing (you can do Store bought also ) – So if your making your own.. just mix powdered sugar and hot water, that is it! Just mix until you get a thick consistency.

  • When your cutting the pop tart be careful, you don’t need to press down so hard
  • Hold the pieces about 2 minutes or so together to make sure the icing hardens and it doesn’t fall apart
  • The roof is usually the hardest, so don’t press so hard be gentle and I would hold the two roof pieces together for about 3-4 minutes to make sure it is secure. The left side of our roof came down and we had to do the icing again .. it didn’t get too messed up so it worked out.
  • Have fun with your kids , its all about making memories!

My youngest son didn’t think this would work better than the boxed houses, he changed his mind quick! This took far less time and we didnt have to use tons and tons of icing. He ended up loving it and thought it was super cute.

I added a snow filter just for fun !

My son had an idea he added some left over blue icing we had to give the house the “icicle look”. I told him to just have fun with it.

We added our tree and Santa gummies to the front of the house and I really loved how it came out. I recommend trying this with your kids and families, maybe do a contest ! For spending only $4 for the supplies this was an awesome little craft for the Christmas season. 🎄✨

“As I see It” by: Cathe Laurie ✨ a book review…

The author is the wife of Pastor Greg Laurie who is the senior pastor at Harvest Church. I have watched their online services and they both are amazing speakers if you get a chance watch them.

I love this book , the fact that she wrote it geared towards women and on a biblical perspective is awesome. I go back to it a few times a month or whenever I need encouragement. I have certain favorite pages booked marked. A friend gave it to me years ago & I’ve had it on my dresser next to my bed ever since. It has honestly helped me through a lot of difficult times, & I think it would be a great Christmas gift for any woman! Link below 😊

I really love the whole book, but I wanted to share the chapters that stood out to me and really helped me.

In #24 She speaks of a unfaithful spouse and how that relates to being unfaithful to God. It’s so true we may fool others with our deception, but that God is not convinced. In times like these I do believe that people think their sins go un-noticed to God or that they can just continue to sin & not have consequences. Or that they may have to come clean at some point and repent. Coming clean and confessing is one thing but repenting that is on a whole other level, that is actually putting in the work to not commit that sin again. Yes we are all sinners but do we just say “Oh well” and keep living life and continue making the same mistakes and doing the same un Godly actions? Or do we stand up and make that change to live right and obey God?

#25 She writes about the book of Pslams which are a passionate expression of grief and sorrow. I recommend reading it if you haven’t already. She says we should deal with our emotions by praying them honestly to God , he isn’t easily shocked and he sees your entire life. God knows where you are in life and what is going on. You may be surprised to look at your life and where you are at this moment but God isn’t. She says to set aside a time to pray and be specific to God, & ask him what you need. I think we all are so busy in life but even if its waking up laying for a few minutes before you get out of bed or on your drive to work this is enough time to pray and speak to God and pour it all out .

#49 She talks about remembering the scriptures and letting them speak to us. In Jeremiah 12:5 he was in a tough place…he was lonely, his family had forsaken him, he had been rejected , humiliated , roughed up, and jailed in solitary confinement. I am sure anyone would be complaining just a little in this situation, but Jeremiah let the word of God challenge & strengthen him. Are we doing that when we are going through a hard time? I have a note section in my phone where I do keep verses that stick out to me, so they are ready to open and read when I need a reminder or some encouragement and don’t have my bible.

#68 Says no matter what happens in our lives or in the world , God’s goodness never changes. We need to remember this daily and keep his promises within us. This part of the book is my favorite part 🙏🏼✨

This year has been a tough one so I am hoping this review helps someone & that they go and grab the book. I am so glad a friend gifted this to me. 😊 Let me know if you have read it and what your thoughts are? I have some other books to read on my list. I love reading, but I’ve been so busy that I hardly have the time to get to the books on my list!

For the chocolate lovers…easy Fudge!🍫😋

Is Fudge everywhere during the holidays or is it just me? I remember at my past jobs people would make fudge during potlucks or even make goodie bags with fudge to give out as little gifts. I love fudge, but I never made it before. I was at Michael’s the craft store the other day and ran across these Christmas theme candy molds & I thought they would be perfect for the fudge I wanted to make. They were very inexpensive & I was able to use a coupon , they don’t have the same one I bought online but they have this cute snowman one:

There are so many different fudge recipes you could try, and so many add in’s you could really pick & choose. I wanted to do the simplest just in case I messed up.. since I never tried it before, lol. I had some walnuts at home so I added those into my fudge.

  • 1 cup of semi- sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Any add ins; I did walnuts ( peanuts, coconut pieces, any candy pieces, etc )

Grab your saucepan , a lot of recipes say you use a broiler. I just put my heat to the lowest setting.. this is so your chocolate doesn’t burn. Place your condensed milk first, add your chocolate chips and then vanilla. Keep stirring and watch so it does not burn or bubble. Once it melts all the way put your add ins and stir then its ready to be put into your greased pan or candy molds. Put in the refrigerator for an 1 or 2. Your all done easy peazy!

The molds came out pretty well, I think the images could have came out a little better but all in all I thought it was going to be much harder or that I would burn the chocolate. Lol, it was a success and we all enjoyed it! It doesn’t taste to rich or chocolaty, its very smooth and the walnuts give it a little crunch. I definitely want to try to do peanut butter fudge next time 😊

Comment below if you like fudge or if you have maybe your own recipe. If you try this let me know how it comes out!

Christmas treats even Santa won’t pass up!😁🎅🏼Some homemade cookies & hot chocolate

What is your favorite Christmas activity to do with your kids/ family? We love to decorate the tree, watch Christmas movies, bake & we usually do some painting. Both my kids love Christmas but what kid doesn’t, right? Lol, my youngest loves Christmas he is super excited. The whole PS5 console situation is a hot mess! I don’t know if I will be able to get my hands on one, but anyways if you don’t have boys your probably thinking I’m lucky I don’t have to deal with that. Good grief , I guess we will see what happens.

The other night while my oldest was with his dad my youngest & I baked some amazing homemade Christmas cookies and made some hot chocolate. We had such a fun time and it was so nice to bond, laugh , and enjoy each others company. He did such a good job he rolled the dough and helped with pretty much everything😊 I was so proud of him.

FYI I got us all ( even my oldest) matching shirts at Old Navy they had a huge sale and we found some cute socks too ! This shirt is still available but it isn’t on sale right now, but I’m sure it will go on sale again. Link:

I found the cookie recipe on a blog, link here: I didn’t want to make regular sugar cookies, so I found these peanut butter cut out cookies. I just made them Christmas cut outs instead of Jack-o-lantern.

  • 1 cup of unsalted butter (softened ) ( 2 sticks)
  • 1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter
  • 2 cups of firmly packed light or dark brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 4 1/2 cups of flour ( I would really make sure you put in the flour little by little , I almost messed up by putting it all in instead of little by little so be careful!)

  • In a large bowl combine butter, peanut butter whisk until fluffy
  • Add in sugar , eggs, & vanilla ( while mixing)
  • In a separate bowl , mix flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  • Add flour mixture slowly ( be careful here) to peanut butter mix and stir
  • Place plastic wrap on dough and chill for 2 hours ( I did an hour and it was ok)
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  • Roll dough on floured surface & cut using any cookie cutters of your choice
  • Place cookies on greased cookie sheet
  • Bake about 8-10 minutes ( lightly browned)

I forgot to take a picture of the cookie cutters, but they are from Target, & are still available and only $10! Link:

We also bought the icing at Target and some sprinkles. I did find some sprinkles at the 99 cent store as well. I didn’t get to take pictures of my son’s cookies as he wanted to eat them right away, lol. They were very delicious, even without the icing I really enjoyed them.

I found some Ghirardelli hot chocolate packets at Target in the holiday section and I thought about it, because to be honest for .99 cents each I thought it was a little pricey. You can get the Swiss hot chocolate package with 6 packets for less than $3. I just wanted to see if it was better than the Swiss that I always buy, so I bought some along with these super cute marshmallow cocoa toppers that were also in the holiday section. So the verdict is.. I loved the Ghirardelli it has an amazing taste there is a difference for sure. I would say buy them and try them out, I also use milk instead of water as it is more creamier. I bought some peppermint whipped cream too just to try it out, to be honest they were out of the regular. Lol, I said to my son I guess we are getting this one since we aren’t leaving without whipped cream!

The cocoa toppers were so cute and my son loved them.

Overall we had such a fun time together, I love making memories with my boys. Hopefully your month is going good so far😉🎄. Comment below what activities your doing this year and let me know if you will try these cookies out or even the hot chocolate!
